Engineered to be exceptional, the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens is a video workhorse. With optics designed to resolve 8k footage straight from the camera, it opens options for solo video shooters and small crews.

Dedicated Z mount video lens

With its impressive rendering power, the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens can resolve high-definition 8K video footage that allows plenty of flexibility to crop in post and output in 4K. The versatile focal-length range handles wide or close-up shots with ease, while the smooth power zoom lets you quickly frame shots on the go. A minimum focus distance of 0.34 m from 28mm to 50mm, and 0.57 m at 135mm, extends your creative options nicely.

Video-specific optical design

The complex optical construction features 18 elements in 13 groups and minimises distortion at any shooting distance. For the best possible anti-reflection performance, Meso Amorphous Coat significantly reduces unwanted ghosting and flare caused by bright light sources. Footage is remarkably clear, even if shooting under strong sunlight or studio lighting.

  • Anti-reflection coating - ED glass

Intuitive handling for videographers

A yellow ring signifies this is a Z mount video lens, while Nikon’s renowned ergonomics enable comfortable handling. The focus, zoom, and control rings are customisable and different knurling on each lets you identify them without looking. The zoom lever is well positioned for operating the camera at waist or shoulder height, and its textured surface prevents fingers from slipping.

  • Customisable control - Zoom rocker

Supports matte boxes and follow focus units

The NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens is compatible with a wide range of cages and mounts, and is shaped so that it’s easy to attach a matte box. The focus ring has a gear pitch of 0.8 m so that you can work with standard follow focus systems, while the rectangular hood (included) boasts a filter adjustment window that lets you keep using the 95 mm filters you have.

  • 0.8 m gear pitch - 95 mm filters

Stable centre of gravity

With servo zoom control and a gimbal-friendly weight of just 1210 g (including tripod collar), this compact Z mount 28-135mm power zoom lens is at home in a cage—and it’s equally comfortable on a tripod.

Whatever your preferred set up is, the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens stays beautifully balanced thanks to an internal motor that smoothly manages the zoom range. The centre of gravity barely shifts at all, a mere 2 mm from wide angle to telephoto.

Ease-in. Ease-out.

Offering precision control and a compact build, the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ video lens is an agile solution that keeps your kit small. No external motorised zoom unit necessary.

For organic-looking transitions, ease-in and ease-out let you start and finish movements with a natural tapering of zoom speed. Whether you’re shooting at waist or shoulder level, you get fingertip control of the internal motorised zoom thanks to the zoom lever on the side of the lens barrel.

When you need more reach, you can activate Hi-Res Zoom via your Nikon Z camera and extend the range of this power zoom lens by 2x when shooting in 4K. You’ll be able to reach up to 270mm without changing lenses: there’s no loss in resolution and depth of field is maintained.

You can also combine the power zoom and Hi-Res Zoom by activating Synchro integration in your camera. With the two systems operating as one, you can achieve smooth transitions from the power zoom to the Hi-Res zoom.

Power zoom

Dramatic crash zooms or slow pulls. Re-framing shots between takes. In-shot zooms when filming straight to camera without an assistant. Controlling multiple camera setups. This power zoom video lens offers fine control over the look and feel of footage, and it can be a game-changer for one person crews.

For reframing a scene between takes, you can use position record and recall whether you’re shooting remotely or in ‘normal’ mode. Simply set the starting zoom position for framing your shot, then recall it when you want to reset your framing for another take.

There are 11 different levels of motorised zoom speed, so you can select the perfect increment for your footage in the camera menu then relax as the power zoom smoothly delivers1. Zoom speed settings can also be assigned to the zoom lever on the lens or one of the camera’s Fn buttons, for quick access while recording.

For remote zooming, the power zoom can be adjusted using a PC with NX Tether installed, or a smart device running SnapBridge or NX Field.

1 11 different zoom speeds: supported by Z9, Z8, and Z6III. Available on Z5, Z6II, and Z7II after firmware updates. Not available on Z6 or Z7.

Linear manual focusing, and more

Linear manual focusing for repeatable results. Suppressed focus breathing. Swift, silent autofocus. No matter what the scene demands of you, this power zoom video lens is happy to oblige.

If you’re pulling focus, you can shoot in linear MF mode where the focus ring of this power zoom lens will operate exactly like that of a mechanical manual focus lens, allowing for accurate, repeatable focus adjustments.

You can also customise operation to reverse the direction of the focus and zoom rings,1 which is ideal if you’re working in a mixed production environment and perfect for accommodating your muscle memory!

1 The direction of the zoom ring can be reversed via custom settings in the camera menu. A camera firmware update may be required.
