The mounting plate provides two cold shoes, one on the bottom and the other on the side, and is designed for mounting a microphone, small LED light, or other accessories. On the bottom of the plate are multiple 1/4"-20 threaded holes, so you can attach a tripod to the bottom of the camera, and the plate gives you full access to the camera's battery door. Additionally, there are two 1/4"-20 threaded holes on the side of the plate so can attach the tripod to the side of the camera when taking videos in orientation for YouTube Live Streaming Service. The unit has a form-fitting L-shape with soft rubber pads to prevent scratching delicate surfaces, and the lightweight design means you can keep it on the camera all the time.
